Go to Home > Paragraph and click Line and Paragraph Spacing. If it is unchecked, the paragraph spacing is 'larger number' only. Adjusting line spacing On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click Line Spacing Options.: Line Spacing in Word 2016 Choose Paragraph. The quickest way to do this is via the Paragraph section of the Home tab on the ribbon: Select the text you want to format. If this is checked, the paragraph space numbers add together.
This setting can be found in File > Options > Advanced > Layout Options > Don't use HTML paragraph auto spacing. The difference between 1 & 2 is governed by a very obscure option setting. Special case override option between two paragraphs of the same style to collapse the paragraph space (as mentioned in Paul's post) Take the larger of the two numbers and ignore the smaller number to determine the space between paragraphsġ. Add the two numbers together to determine the space between paragraphsĢ. The combination of Before and After spacing between paragraphs is more complicated than you would think would be necessary. Then click the Paragraph dialog box launcher button in the lower-right corner of the Paragraph. Alternatively, to select multiple paragraphs, click and drag over them. The paragraph before/after spacing is ordinarily used to generate the desired white-space between paragraphs and the effects are cumulative (though the 'Don't add space between paragraphs of the same Style' option can be used to eliminate the before/after spacing under that condition. To set line spacing and paragraph spacing in Word by using the Paragraph dialog box, click into the paragraph to set.
